We're From The Government and We're Here to Help

Searching for a Doctor
Dark Day Part 3

Upon reaching Fort Meade, the team found the base on Lock Down. Luther was in the lead vehicle and chatted with the base guards. Artemis noticed that while all the guards looked human, none of the guards smelled human, and several of them smelled like the armored men that had chased them earlier.

The team contemplated making a run for it but the guards already had their weapons drawn. Luther talked his way onto the base and the team followed. After moving out of sight of the guard house, Luther pulled to the side of the road and gave the order to leave the cars. He could tell from talking to the guards that this base was compromised as well. The team was going to leave the base by jumping the closest fence and make their way to the closest town, Laurel.

As they got a few hundred yards from the cars they were attacked by 4 Winged Creatures that appeared to be wearing the same type of armor as the earlier combatants, but these creatures had vulture like heads. One of the men from Team Epsilon was grabbed and the creature flew off with him. They were not seen again.

Abigail, Artemis, Mick,. and Robert (being carried by Artemis) made their way back to the cars while fighting off 2 of the creatures. The third kept its attention on Luther’s group. Artemis let out a powerful bark (Nightbane Talent) that stunned the 2 creatures. Robert grabbed one of the creatures and swung it into one of the cars. Artemis grabbed the second one and threw it on to the same car. She then picked up the second car and threw it on top of the first car making a demon sandwich. Abigail used a fireball to light the whole pile and the vehicles exploded, killing the demons.

Seeing its comrades defeated the last demon broke off its attack on Luther’s group and flew toward the center of the base.

The team made their way off the base. Robert, being the only one to have his wallet on him, made a $300 withdrawal at a gas station. They then headed to a Hotel a few blocks away and booked 2 rooms for the night.

While Luther setup this temporary base and contemplated their next move, Abigail, Artemis, Robert, and Mick left to seek medical attention for Mick. A local Urgent Care center bandaged Mick and diagnosed him with 3 broken ribs. When they returned to the Hotel the team watched the local news reports when an EBS message from the President aired. He gave no explanation for the unnatural darkness but blamed the deaths and attacks in the major cities on terrorists, and the reports of monsters on troublemakers in costumes taking advantage of the situation. The whole team noticed that even though Luther was in the room with them, he was also standing behind the President on the live feed. He was accompanied by one of the missing members of the DC PAB safehouse, Saranna Dawson.

The whole team is now suspicious of Luther (Is he the real one or the one on the TV), but considering the events of the night they opted not to split up. Luther used the Hotel’s computer lab to send a distress call to all PAB agents, warning them to avoid the main base or the safe houses as they had to consider the whole organization compromised. Knowing that the message would be traced to the hotel, the team walked to a nearby Carmax lot and stole 2 Humvee H2’s (so Robert could actually ride inside a vehicle for once). They would need a permanent place to hide and regroup. The team decided to head toward the industrial district of Baltimore to search for an abandoned building or factory that could act as a new base of command.

They Knew Where To Hit Us
Dark Day Part 2

Artemis, Mick, and Robert manage to evade the armored men that were chasing them and reach the subway entrance to the McCaffery Mansion safe house. The emergency light was lit on the doorway indicating that base was under attack. They entered cautiously.

The subway entrance leads to the garage (4th basement floor). No enemies sighted but gunshots could be heard from the floor above. They entered the stairwell and proceeded to the 3rd floor.

Meanwhile Abigail was so sound asleep in the staff bedroom that she didn’t hear the gunshots, the screaming, or the alarms going off all around.

The trio found 3 members of Team Epsilon engaging 3 of the mysterious armored men.

Abigail finally wakes up and grabs her side arm. She discovers Carissa Waller under attack by a mysterious armored man. The two manage to take out the attacker and they proceed to the third floor where they hear more gunfire.

By the time Abigail joins the rest, they have managed to take out 2 of the 3 attackers. In defeating the last one, several injuries were sustained. Robert is badly burned on his right side by an errant fireball of Abigail’s, and Mick has had several ribs broken by the armored man.

The team leaves Mick in Carissa’s care while they clear the rest of the building. Upon reaching the Playroom (Weapons Locker) they find Rep. Luther had locked himself in the playroom. The team grabs supplies for themselves (weapons and armor) and make their way to the ground floor.

Ground floor was clear but the basement door and the main entrance were both broken open indicating the attackers entered through there. Looking outside the building they could see the attack on DC was ongoing. The army of armored men were definitely attacking specific individuals. Some of those they attacked were changing into monstrous shapes just before being dispatched. Those that managed to make the change dissipated in black smoke just as the armored men do.

Artemis recognized the victims as fellow Nightbane. Luther ordered everyone back to the basement to use the subway for escape. The team followed the subway lines to the silver spring station before moving back to the surface. Along the way Artemis could sense hundreds of Nightbane. Just as quick as they would appear they would disappear. She could not tell if this was simply from moving out of range or because they had been killed. Though she had her suspicions.

The team resurfaced in the China Town section of Silver Springs. None of the assailants were present. The locals were mostly freaking out over the unnatural darkness and jabbering in Chinese. Only Abigail understood what was being said. The team made an unsuccessful attempt to hot wire a bus. They did finally find 2 sedans that had been abandoned with the keys still in the ignition. Due to Robert’s size he could not fit in the vehicles. He broke out the back window of one of the cars, sat on the roof of the car, and braced himself with his feet in the back window. Artemis, Abigail, Clarissa and Mick got in the car with Robert. The rest got in the second vehicle.

Luther ordered them to head to Fort Meade where another PAB facility was located.

Brought a Pistol to a Superman Fight
Dark Day Part 1

Three members of the Paranormal Activities Bureau; Artemis , Robert, and Mick were out on the National Mall. Artemis was in her dog form, Mick and Robert were in civilian clothing.

A "darkness’ passed over the area, traveling east to west. It was not clouds or any other natural phenomenon. Panic spread among those out on the Mall. Soon screams were heard and bloodied patrons were seen pouring out of the Natural History Museum.

The team moved closer to investigate and found 6 “men” in black armor, wielding halberd style spears, killing the patrons in the main hall. The team noticed that the adversaries seemed to be targeting specific people, but what they had in common could not be ascertained.

One of the “men” sniffed the air like a hound and turned to stare at Artemis. Artemis ran from the building and the armored man gave chase. As the man passed Mick, Mick pulled out his pistol and shot the man in the back. The man was unphazed. The man was able to catch up to Artemis and with one swing of the halberd, cut in to Artemis’ side and flung her into a tree, breaking the tree in half.

Mick, cast Altered Flesh on Robert to boost his SDC, as Robert ran toward the enemy. Robert tackled the man and was able to hold him down. Artemis recovered from the blow, and was able to rip the halberd from the man’s hand with one bite and then crush his head with a second. The man was hollow and began to dissolve into black smoke.

A second Armored Man was seen at the entrance to the museum. He sniffed the air like the first, turned to stare directly at Artemis, then let out a howl or shriek. Mick jumped on Artemis’ back, and Artemis and Robert started to sprint toward the Smithsonian Metro station. As they reach the metro entrance, Artemis noticed more armored men standing at the entrances to all the museums in view.

Starting Out - Things to think about.

We’re going to go with a Spook Squad themed adventure. To go along with the government theme well be starting out in the Washington D.C. metro area. This will be modern day (2015) campaign, but an alternate time line so not all events in our world will have happened in this one. Tech is pretty much the same for picking out gear.

I’m pretty open on what type of characters you want to be. If anyone has questions before Wednesday, I will check here and on Facebook at least once a day.

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
